Employability development in undergraduate programmes: how different is liberal arts education?

This paper examines how students’ employability develops during undergraduate studies at a Dutch liberal arts college compared to conventional bachelor’s programme in law the same university. Drawing on graduate capital model, study focuses six skills that enhance employability: creativity, lifelong learning, career decidedness, self-efficacy, resilience, and personal initiative. To measure growth, cross-sectional pseudo-cohort research design is adopted, comparing first-, second-, third-year student cohorts. The results show students make significant progress five out of examined employability-related skills. Compared programme, gains creativity initiative particularly stand out, reflecting differences between interdisciplinary monodisciplinary self-tailored fixed curriculum structures. refutes stereotype degree does not prepare for labour market points relevance programme-specific features development higher education.
